dear friends,
the latest digitized edition of Slappy Pinchbottom’s Odd Preoccupation is hot off the sampler, just waiting to infect your aural environs. on this week’s show (originally broadcast on 1/26/07) we feature part 2 of the 5-part series Raiding the 20th Century, a remixed history of remixing. in addition you will hear snippets of two uniquely american artforms, eefing and conceptual poetry. fluxus is also discussed. grab the goodies here:

note: if you’re having trouble using those URLs directly, you can also go to http://www.pinchbottom.org/Slappy/ to see a list of all the episodes i have up at the moment. right-click on the one you want, save it to your computer, and listen to it like any other mp3.
News Flash: i’m off the austin airwaves for the month of February. KOOP is punishing me for being bad, though not nearly forcefully enough to make any difference in my behavior. but fear not, loyal listeners! i will be producing a series of INTERNET EXCLUSIVE episodes of the Preoccupation over the next few weeks, intended only for the ears of you, my favoritest fans. i’ll be picking out only the choicest bits from the stew, and regurgitating them just for you. also, expect some serious swears as i immaturely revel in temporary freedom from FCC regulations. i’m looking forward to it, and i hope you are too.

dear friends,
here once more to shoot sweet ballistic missiles of auditory goodness straight up your Eustachian tubes, the two most recentest episodes of Slappy Pinchbottom’s Odd Preoccupation are now available for your listening pleasure.

this episode features many fewer spoken words than usual, and instead fixates with a mad, obssessive glee upon the fine art of the re-MIX. featured are pre-teen recording prodigies tammy and scotty, and what happens when the internet discovers them. also there are extended mashups from Voicedude and People Like Us, and DJ Spooky serves as the thick crusty bread for the whole Pinchbottom sandwich. (the sandwich’s secret ingredient, the olive in the loaf as it were, is a completely out-of-context little gem of a story from an old Physical Plant show, entitled, appropriately enough, A Dream Of Bread.)

last week’s episode dives once again into the fertile embrace of the re-Mix, and features part 1 (of 5) of a remixed history of remixes put together by DJ Food and released two years to the day before the date of this show. also, i shill for you to vote KOOP on the austin chronicle’s austin music poll, giving a quick tour of my favorite KOOP shows on the way. we wind up with some words by one of my favorite writers, Robert Anton Wilson, who died last week. we’ll be featuring more RAW in the weeks and months to come, as well as the rest of that mammoth history of remixes, bit by bit.
as always, any feedback is delightedly welcomed. let me know if you no longer want to receive these announcements and you’ll be off the list toot-sweet.
continually, i remain,
your humble host,
slappy pinchbottom

dear friends,
i have a new resolve for the new year to begin recording my radio show, Slappy Pinchbottom’s Odd Preoccupation, and making the recordings available for download. at some point i’ll get my shiznit together on the podcast tip, but until then i’ll just be putting them up for download.
january 5′s SP’sOP features:
* the dangers of the past (punk rock, in particular),
* the promise of the future,
* strange xians,
* a scenic and jazzy look back through the life of lee harvey oswald,
* one solid minute of buffy,
* a vacation slideshow from the firesign theater, and
* MORE (though not much more, it’s only a half hour show for godsakes.)
please to enjoy yesterday’s aural emissions, broken into podcast-sized chunks:

for just a little taste of the sweet stuff, here’s Slappy P’s new year’s wishes for you, his devoted listeners, excerpted from Part 2:

enjoy,

ps: be prepared for the sound quality to be a bit uneven. this will improve as i get better equipment, also as i gradually figure out what the frak i’m doing.
pps: my other resolve is to let people know when i get these things online, which i’ll be doing on a regular basis. so, if you never want to see another of these messages just let me know, and i’ll take you off the list — otherwise, see you next time! [also please let me know if you end up getting these messages twice, and i'll take care of it.]
ppps: nothing in the world (excepting a smile from my baby girl) would delight me more than any feedback you’d care to give on the show, positive, negative or artistic. i’m still in the novice stage of this endeavor, and i want to improve. also i want your love. GIVE IT TO ME.
